Because sometimes "stupid things" happen. And because if he doesn't somehow, in some way, have a reason that isn't motivated entirely by selfishness and greed, there's probably nothing I or anyone else can do for him.

But from what I read, he wasn't looking for some kind of resource that could massively improve people's lives.

I won't make a habit of this. If you don't want to take the case, you don't have to. I don't know what we can do with it, anyway.

If he robbed a bank for fun and profit and got caught, there's very little I can do. He'll have to face the consequences. But I'll at least hear him out before I decide to send him on his way.

There's a chance that the other individual involved is making himself the culpable party. We might need to look into that.
