I'm having a small dinner the 24th for the last night of Hanukkah. If you and Lil are free, I'd like you both to come.

Well, I'm not planning anything, but I never make any social plans if I can help it.

[ Beat. ]

Because of work. Things have a habit of coming up.

[ And by work they both know he means "Daredevil." Not because he's an asshole. Though he is that too. ]

[ There are few things she will try to make time for and holidays are it. Well, parts of it. She's missed Catherine's Hanukkah parties due to her work "schedule". ]

I can sympathize.

And if you can. It would be nice if you could come, but if you're busy...

I can't imagine that we are.

[ Might be getting busy, but... ]

But she's the one with the social life. Maybe there's some supermodel Christmas party I'm not aware of. I'll ask.

I wouldn't blame you for going to supermodel Christmas party.

[ Heh. ]

The appeal might be a little lost on me. [ And Lil would be jealous if it weren't, so he's sticking with that line. ] You sure you wouldn't rather come with us if we do? Somebody should get to appreciate it.

[ She laughs softly. ]

I wouldn't say no if this were to happen.

I'd expect a full report, of course. Just so I can tell Lil at the end of the night I picked the prettiest one.

Sadly, there are no supermodel Christmas parties. So we'll be there.

Is this one of those "don't bring a gift" affairs where we all know we're all going to bring one anyway?

I'm starting to grow a little concerned with everyone offering. If there's more than enough I'm going to have to give everyone a doggy bag.

Wine is the dinner party staple. But maybe you're not old enough for that to be a rule, yet, like Lil and I are.

I prefer bourbon.

But you obviously haven't been to a Chanukkah dinner before.

I have not. I didn't used to be the life of the party, you know.

[ Not to mention his intentionally small social circle and his loner tendencies and the disaster of his personal life anyway. ]

I don't even make it to Midnight Mass, anymore, let alone other people's celebrations.

[gevurah]

I don't go to the synagogue.

[ A beat. ]

I thought it would be nice... to have one, even if it's a small gathering.

[ Nill would have liked it. ]

Lil would agree with you. She's thrilled to have things to go do as a couple. This is probably the best present you could have given her.
